A Record-Breaking Pour
What better way to celebrate the Tour de France rolling through town than with an enormous glass of beer? That’s exactly what Stod Fold Brewing Company in Halifax, UK, did in 2014. They set the Guinness World Record for the largest glass of beer.
Brewery owners Angus Wood and Ed Dupuy went all out, creating a giant glass that stood 7 feet, 4 inches tall (2.23 meters) with a diameter of 3 feet, 8 inches (1.12 meters). The colossal glass held 2,082 liters (550 US gallons) of their signature Stod Fold Gold ale—equal to 3,664 pints!
One Pint Per Kilometer
The record-breaking event wasn’t just about beer—it was also a tribute to the Tour de France. The team at Stod Fold Brewing decided to pour one pint for every kilometer of the famous race, filling the massive glass as thousands of spectators cheered.
It took one full hour to fill the enormous vessel, with organizers even having to climb scaffolding to top it off properly. The effort paid off, as they smashed the previous record of 2,638 liters, set in California in 2009.
A Toast to Beer and Cycling
The Fleece Countryside Inn in Ripponden, Yorkshire, played host to this impressive feat. The event was a true celebration of beer, cycling, and community spirit. The brewery’s incredible achievement earned them a well-deserved spot in the Guinness World Records, cementing their place in beer history.
While the record still stands, it leaves us wondering—who will be the next brewery to take on the challenge of an even bigger glass?
